Coronavirus Update: New Operations & Safety Procedures

Over the last several months, “business as usual” changed for all of us. However, there is one thing that has not changed, and that’s the continued support of our incredible team, customers, and vendor partners. We thank each of you for your partnership and support during these challenging times. We could not do this without you.

As we continue to monitor the evolution of this situation, we are following recommendations and best practices from the CDC and local governments for essential businesses. We’ve put in place numerous policies to keep everyone safe including social distancing, enhanced cleaning and disinfecting, and curbside pickup and delivery. These procedures have allowed us to remain open and keep everyone safe and healthy, and we thank you for your help following them.

Many states and local governments throughout the country have begun to gradually reopen non-essential businesses. With the reopening of these businesses and the increased demand at our local branches, we will begin to follow suit by allowing customers inside our warehouses. This will enable us to increase our efficiencies and minimize your wait times to get you back to work quicker. Please note, we will continue to offer curbside pickup and delivery for those customers that do not feel comfortable entering into their local branch.

We have implemented the following new policies to ensure the continued safety of you and our employees:

  1. Send only one employee to pick up materials. We are still limiting the number of people coming into our branches, we will not be servicing non-essential customers or allowing visits from our vendor partners at this time.
  1. All customers must wear face coverings. While in the warehouse, we will require that customers completely cover their nose and mouth with a face covering (bandana, scarf, face mask). Please keep your face covered for the duration of your visit. Central team members will also be required to wear face coverings.
  1. Wear gloves or sanitize hands. We request that customers wear gloves (any type) while visiting our warehouses. If this is not possible, we’ll have hand sanitizer available for required use while in the branch. Central team members will also be required to wear gloves and keep hands properly sanitized.
  2. Social distancing and waiting area. We will provide tables and marked waiting areas near the counter or displays to help maintain proper social distancing while in the warehouse.

Our team will also continue with our other procedures including regular cleaning and disinfecting of high-traffic areas and work stations, proper social distancing, and staying home when they do not feel well.

We have evaluated other essential retail businesses and reviewed their safety and operations policies. You’ll notice that many of our policies reflect best practices from the retail industry and are the same that are in place at your local grocery and big box stores.

With the reopening of states and local governments, we’re optimistic about the remaining portion of our spring and summer season. We eagerly hope that these positives continue and the worst is behind us.

We’re committed to supporting you in any way we can. We understand many of the challenges that you are facing and believe that strong partnerships are the best way to get through them. As always, thank you for your patience and understanding, particularly during these challenging times.

Sincerely yours,

Anthony Luciano

Coronavirus Update: Our Continued Support and Commitment

Many of us are adjusting to our new routines, as the situation around COVID-19 begins to show signs of hitting the apex in several areas of the country. We are starting to see glimmers of hope that mitigation through social distancing is starting to have the intended impact of flattening the curve. We eagerly hope that these positives continue and the worst is behind us.

Even though “business as usual” has changed slightly, Central remains committed to you and your success. We know you are facing new challenges every day. We believe, the best way to get through this is with strong partnerships—and we’ll be here to support you anyway we can.

Our customers are the lifeblood of our company, and the Green Industry. We cannot thank you enough for your support to Central and your commitment to the industry. You and your employees are helping to make sure that the Green Industry continues to have a prosperous future. Together, we know we will weather this storm and come out stronger.

We continue to work closely with and support our local and national industry associations. As more information becomes available, we will make the necessary adjustments to support the safety and well-being of our customers and employees.

Each day, our branch managers, counter team, and delivery persons continue the operations of our warehouses. They are unwavering in their support to you, providing the products and services you need with minimal disruption. We couldn’t be prouder of our team’s dedication to our customers and industry. We are filled with incredible gratitude for their commitment and we cannot thank them enough for their hard work.

As we have said from the beginning, the safety of our employees and our customers is of the utmost importance to us. Starting earlier this month, and continuing for as long as necessary, we have implemented stricter procedures to ensure the safety of our employees and our customers. These actions are in addition to the procedures that we have already implemented.

The biggest change we have made is that, only Central employees will be allowed in our branches. Customers and delivery persons will no longer be allowed in our branches. Customers should call ahead for delivery or curbside pickup, and should only send one team member to pick up products. There will be a designated area at each warehouse location for you to easily pick up the products that have been ordered.

To keep our team members safe within the branches, we are practicing social distancing and wearing protective gear, including gloves and face coverings. And of course, we continue to be vigilant with handwashing, regular sanitizing of high traffic areas, and encouraging employees that do not feel well to stay home. These additional procedures will only help us keep everyone safe and healthy, while continuing to service and support you safely.

As always, thank you for your patience and understanding, particularly during these challenging times.

Sincerely yours,

Coronavirus Update: Employees, Business Operations, and Our Industry

Since Friday, the situation around Coronavirus (COVID-19) has continued to quickly change within our local communities. More states and local governments have begun to implement stringent regulations to limit the spread of this virus—including closing of schools, nonessential businesses, and work from home requirements. This includes New York state, where our corporate headquarters is located.

As business owners, we understand your concerns about your own businesses. Our paramount goal has been for the health and safety of our customers and employees, as we continue to monitor the situation closely.

We have been in direct contact with most of the local and national Green Industry associations throughout the states where we conduct business. These associations have been working closely with their local legislative offices and government officials to make sure they can bring our industry the most up-to-date and accurate information available regarding health and safety, as well as classification of essential vs nonessential businesses.

With most of our vendors and customers continuing to do business under the essential category, we supply an essential industry with parts and other supplies. This allows Central Turf & Irrigation Supply to also be considered an essential businessEach state is using slightly different language regarding business classifications of essential vs nonessential, and we encourage you to review your local regulations to see if your business falls within this essential category. And, if you choose to continue to work, please follow government safety guidelines for essential businesses.

We are dedicated to making sure that we're able to provide the products and services you need with minimal disruption, while keeping our customers, and our team members healthy and safe. Our warehouses will continue to be open regular hours:

Monday – Friday from 7am – 5pm
Saturday from 7am -12pm

During these extraordinarily challenging times, we would like to address the following four areas concerning the needs of our customers, employees and our industry:

Employee & Customer Safety

We will be continuing to follow recommendations from the CDC, to minimize the risk for our customers, employees, and families. While this is not a complete list, here are some of the precautions we’re taking across our business.

Our Warehouse Branches

  • We briefed our team on recommendations from the CDC, regarding handwashing, social distancing, and other preventative measures.
  • Our branches continue to clean and sanitize all high-traffic areas such as restrooms and counter areas to the best of our ability.
  • We have given our local teams the ability to access any cleaning or sanitizing products they need. The supply chain for these products have been significantly disrupted but we’ll continue to prioritize cleaning and sanitizing to the best of our ability during these challenges.

Our Employees

Our team members are our family, and we want them to stay safe and healthy. To help with this:

  • We have suspended all out-of-state travel for all employees until further notice.
  • In-person meeting will be limited to smaller group sizes, while practicing a minimum of 6ft distancing.
  • We are utilizing conference calling and virtual meetings to make sure we stay connected, but also safe.
  • Our corporate office team will be working from home, as mandated by New York state, but will still be providing full service to our customers and local warehouses.
  • We have asked any employee that travels abroad to self-quarantine for two weeks and will require a doctor’s approval before they return.
  • We are working closely with our teams to ensure that anyone who is not feeling well understands that we support them staying home.

Events and Classes

  • We have canceled all upcoming classes and events until further notice. We will be making decisions on a week-by-week basis regarding future classes and events. We will keep you updated on when we’ll be rescheduling any canceled or postponed events.

Customer Support

We are dedicated to supporting you and your business throughout this challenging time, with minimal disruptions. Our facilities are not open to the general public, so thankfully, our exposure is limited and risk remains low.

Let’s work together to limit the spread of the disease, while still making sure your business runs efficiently:

  • Call-in ordersto your local branch ahead of time, so we can have what you need ready when you arrive.
  • Send only one or two employeesto pick up materials. This will help with limiting the spread.
  • Call once you arrive for curbside pick-up. We are limiting in-store access.
  • Take advantage of our same-day delivery services.
  • Utilize Online Support. Get invoices, recent statements, and pay your bills.

Finally, if your team needs additional training or you are looking to add a critical service like mosquito and tick control to your business, please let us know. We can offer virtual training to you and your team.

Financial Stability

The economic impact of the virus has been fast and hard in many industries throughout the country, with business already shutting down or filing bankruptcy. As a company, we pride ourselves on being fiscally responsible, upholding our financial commitments to our employees, vendors, and landlords. We are focused on mitigating a negative financial impact to our employees, vendors, and landlords for as long as possible, but to do this we must remain open for as long as we can.

At some point, there will be a financial impact on all of us, but the severity of that will depend on if, and for how long, we need to close. We’re working hard to do everything we can to limit any hardship for our team members, customers, vendors, and our industry.

Protection of the Green Industry

We believe the Green Industry is a vibrant and vital industry, and we want to do whatever we can to ensure its protection during this crisis. We will continue to supply and fulfill the needs of our customers, pay vendors, and support our local and national associations.

With more and more people required to remain at home, their outdoor and green spaces will become invaluable to them. We want to ensure that we are able to help our customers keep these spaces clean, healthy, and safe from pests for their customers—so that these spaces can be enjoyed without worry.

Finally, we are monitoring our customers and manufacturing partners and their response to this situation. At this time, most of our customers and manufacturing partners remain open. It is our responsibility as a critical link in the supply chain to remain open as well.

As more information becomes available, we will continue to make adjustments to support the safety and well-being of our customers and employees.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, particularly during these challenging times.

Sincerely yours,

We understand the growing concern surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19) across our communities and have been closely monitoring the situation. As a valued partner, we appreciate your continued loyal support and we look to support you every step of the way.

As business owners, we understand you may have specific concerns about minimizing the risk for your employees, customers, and families. We are dedicated to making sure that we're able to provide the products and services you need, while keeping our customers, and our team members healthy and safe.

Like many others, we’re taking guidance from the CDC, which recommends regular cleaning of surfaces and social distancing as two of the most important preventative measures we can take. Our facilities are not open to the general public, so thankfully, our exposure is limited and risk remains low.

Our branches have cleaned and sanitized all high-traffic areas such as restrooms and counter areas to the best of our ability. We have given our local teams the ability to access any cleaning or sanitizing products they need. Additionally, we are working closely with our teams to ensure that anyone who is not feeling well understands that we support them staying home.

We are also following the lead from local leaders and have canceled all upcoming classes and events for the next two weeks. This situation continues to evolve quickly. We’re closely monitoring it and will be making decisions on a week-by-week basis regarding future classes and events. We will keep you updated on when we’ll be rescheduling any canceled or postponed events.

Our team members are our family, and we want them to stay safe and healthy. We’ll be utilizing conference calling and virtual meetings to make sure we stay connected, but also safe.

We want to limit disruption to your business whenever possible, that’s why our warehouses will continue to be open regular hours:

Monday – Friday from 7am – 5pm
Saturday from 7am -12pm

Finally, let’s work together to limit the spread of the disease, while still making sure your business runs efficiently:

  • Call-in orders to your local branch ahead of time. This will help our team have what you need ready when you arrive.
  • Whenever possible, do not send large groups of employees to the branch. This will help with limiting the spread.
  • Take advantage of our same-day delivery services.
  • Utilize Online Support. Get invoices, recent statements, and pay your bills online to avoid having to come into the branch.

As more information becomes available, we will continue to make adjustments to support the safety and well-being of our customers and employees. We thank you for continuing to be our valued business partner, particularly during these challenging times.
